4. Study the role of the Bauhaus in the history of graphic design and explain its significance. Discuss the theory/concept or worldviews that they shared and how influence to current design scene.
So first of all, The Bauhaus School is a German design school, founded in 1919 by Walter Groupius. In this era of change and disillusionment, Bauhaus movement sought to embrace 20th century machine culture through basic necessities such as buildings, furniture and design. Bauhaus school encouraged the embrace of modern technologies in order to succeed in a modern environment.
Most basic rule of Bauhaus was-:
#1 "Form Follows Function"
-a sentence coined by an American architect, Louis Sullivan.
who wanted to express the futility in excessive ornamentations, and was central to thinking in the Bauhaus school.
-emphasized a strong understanding of basic design
-principles of composition, color theory, and craftsmanship, in a wide array of disciplines
-eliminate the ideas of the individual and instead focus on the productivity of design
-convey the idea that form had to reflect the function of the product.
-artistic devices were to be used to increase the utility of the work.
#2 Typography Matters
-realized the essential role of types in an effective visual communication.
-Bauhaus concentrated on simplified fonts and avoided the much heavier renderings of the standard German typography of the time.
-started wrapping text around objects & arrange type horizontally, vertically and even diagonally — which was not common at the time.
-refused to combine lower and upper case types in a same work, preferred sans-serif fonts.
#3 Geometric Forms
-Bauhaus showed a deep love of simple geometry
-breaking down objects into their rawest geometric shapes
-create new, and more modern items.
-Clean, abstract and geometric forms were constantly used
The reason i choose this question is because since i have studied and get to know some knowledge about Bauhaus from last semester's history of art class, so i can apply what i had learnt for this question.

#2 My second brief research is for question number 6.
Graphic design serves as a filter through which much of our comm a mirror that reflects contemporary culture.
The influence that graphic designers have on how communication is delivered may not always be apparent to them. Often they are embroiled in the details of a project and don’t even realize the impact their work has had or will have until some time has passed and the work is seen in retrospect.
The trends that social and cultural changes brought out affected society's perception and opinions towards a design. When a graphic designer cant catch up with the current trends of social and cultural, designer can't communicate wth the society because society unable to resonate from their design.

#2 My second brief research is for question number 6.
6. Discuss how graphic design was affected by social and cultural changes in urbanization. Write a case study of an example to illustrate your argument.

7. Discuss the role of designer in sustainable packaging design. Discuss the urgent needs and how it contributes to improve the society.
As designers, however, we can be certain that if we are to improve what we make, reduce our impacts, and create a better world, we will need to rethink the way we design at every scale.
Sustainability represents a tremendous design opportunity: To design chemicals, materials, products, buildings, cities, and transportation systems that contribute meaningfully to a positive, sustainable future.
Packaging is often a consumer's first point of contact with your product, spiffy package may make someone try a new product line they’ve never heard of.
There are so many things to think about when designing a package :-
- it is design that has to function.
- It has to protect what’s inside.
- It has to allow for easy storage and distribution,
- It give informations to the customer about what it is and draw attention to itself on a shelf full of competing products.
Designer play a central role in making the vision of sustainable packaging design a reality
- to design an instantly recognizable logo, distinctive shape, and global fame came from this packaging.
- Production costs are reduced for distributors, often drastically
- The more insane, impractical ideas are eliminated
- Stronger design images are created
- Things like product safety are remembered and enforced
- The packaging is physically better for product handling
People are visual. Strong visual design assets have a way of sticking more than verbal communication. No matter where people live; no matter the languages they speak, visuals communicate clear messages everyone can understand. That’s why packaging has the power to sell consumers right at the retail shelf. The visual impact of great package design has the power to sell product and build brands like nothing else. Remember that packaging is one of the most tangible representations of brands. Fully developing the potential of visual design elements can lift brands by owning consumer mindshare and creating category leaders.
Through visual communication, designers both contribute to and reflect the social and cultural identities of society. By shifting the focus of design back towards humanity, it is beneficial for designers to explore the societal influence they possess and to ask themselves what message their current work is communicating to the world.
Since i always think of want to do packaging design in the future. I thought of this question will help me earn information and understand more about packaging design. That's why i picked this question for brief research.
